The Adventure Nexus (TAN) is thrilled to welcome Software Engineering Intern Triet "Tristan" Ly, whose rapid problem-solving, technical rigor, and natural curiosity make him a powerful addition to our core development team. Fresh off securing two hackathon victories and distinguishing himself through high-impact software projects, Tristan brings a fresh perspective to software architecture. Working closely with our engineering leadership, Tristan is gaining hands-on experience in how high-level code transforms theoretical algorithms into responsive, production-grade systems.
As our very first university-partnered intern, Tristan represents an exciting milestone for TAN. We are immensely grateful to the University of Rochester and the Hire Rochester Scholars Program for connecting us with such an exemplary scholar, quick study, and genuine joy to work with. Tristan quickly proved to be a powerhouse contributor. He is literally helping lay the digital foundations of our application—breathing life into the code before our eyes and raising the bar for digital and tabletop gaming experiences everywhere.

Pursuing his degree in Computer Science, Tristan brings a strong background in full-stack development, modern frameworks, and algorithm design. As a 2x Hackathon winner, his drive stems from taking complex, abstract problems and engineering elegant, user-centric solutions. Joining TAN has allowed him to jump straight into production-level architecture and scale code in a real-world startup environment.
Q: Where do you want to go with your career? Are you still feeling your way, or do you have a clear path ahead?
Snapshot: Tristan Ly, in His Own Words
I grew up in Vietnam, and I still answer to two names: Minh Triet at home, Tristan everywhere else. It's a small thing, but it's a decent summary of how I move through most rooms. I'm comfortable holding two contexts at once and used to translating between them.
Where I'm from, you don't throw things out when they break. You open them up and figure out why they stopped working. That's less a technical philosophy than just how the house ran, and it turned out to be good training for engineering. I'd rather understand something all the way down than get it working and walk away. Coming here for school also wasn't a casual decision for my family, and I'm aware of what it cost. That doesn't make me anxious so much as deliberate. I try to build things that hold up when nobody's watching them, which is a slower way to work, but the only one that feels honest to me.
That same deliberate mindset shapes how I view my future.
When asked whether he sees his career as a path of open exploration or a line toward a specific goal, he had this to say;
"Honestly, I'm somewhere between the two. I know the direction: I want to work on the layer underneath the product—the infrastructure and reliability side, where the job is making sure things stay up and stay fast. That part I'm sure about. What I haven't decided is the industry I want to point it at, and I don't think I should decide yet. I'm early enough in my degree that the useful thing is to keep building, keep taking on problems slightly past what I already know how to solve, and let the specifics come from that. The plan is to be very good at a thing, and stay open about where I do it."
My Response: Staying open, observing, and feeling your way forward is a wise approach. After all, the master of patience is the master of all things.
